The research will focus on the development of new materials and materials combinations for electrochemical and photocatalytic energy conversion. In particular, we are interested in the synthesis and characterisation of functional hybrid materials, e.g. inorganic – inorganic, inorganic – carbon, inorganic – organic combinations.

The materials will be characterised with a number of modern ex-situ and in-situ methods, including X-ray diffraction, thermic analysis and diverse microscopic and spectroscopic methods. These materials should serve as model systems for fundamental studies on the dynamics and kinetics of solid-liquid and solid-solid interfaces and will be tested for photocatalytic applications, such as water splitting, CO2 reduction and artificial photosynthesis. The research is well embedded within a network of close collaborations with world-renowned experts in this interdisciplinary field.

Applicants will be required to contribute to teaching (especially supervising inorganic lab courses and internships in German), to dissiminate their research in high impact journals and to conduct a dissertation.
