Men and Women in Science

08.11.2022 ISTA, Raiffeisen Lecture Hall, Am Campus 1, 3400 Klosterneuburg

The Institute of Science and Technology Austria (ISTA) invites you to the exciting panel event “Men and Women in Science”. Topics of positive discrimination and its impact on gender balance will be discussed, and questions about mens roles in furthering gender balance will be posed.

It is often stated that gender balance is a topic that concerns us all, meaning all genders, not just women. Still, the vast majority of participants in “Women in science” events are women. This event represent a particular effort to engage men in the discussion of how to improve and maintain gender balance. The event will start with facing the elephant in the room by addressing the concept (or misconception?) of positive discrimination and its impact on gender balance. In the second part, the focus will be on questions such as “what can men do to further gender balance?” and “why should they?”, which will hopefully result in an incentive for all genders to contribute – each in their own way – to the improvement of this important challenge.

Detailed program will be announced soon.
