The Research Group on Image and Video Analysis & Synthesis (IVAS) at the Interactive Media Systems Group (www.ims.tuwien.ac.at/IVAS) of Vienna University of Technology (TU Wien) announces

2 Research Positions (1 PhD student and 1 Master student) "3D video analysis and synthesis"

for highly motivated students/graduates of Informatics, Mathematics or related studies (Electrical Engineering, Physics, …) with a background or strong interest in the area of 3D video analysis and synthesis. The successful candidates will work in a team of academic and industrial partners on the project “Precise3D” funded by the Austrian Research Promotion Agency, with the goal to generate high-quality 3D scene models of dynamic scenes using stereo analysis and other 3D vision techniques. We are looking for qualified candidates that meet several of the following requirements:

  • Excellent academic record
  • Very good knowledge of computer vision
  • High ability of analytic and algorithmic thinking
  • Good programming skills (C++, Matlab)
  • Experience in GPU programming
  • Knowledge in visualization and video editing techniques
  • Profound interest in basic and applied research questions
  • Good knowledge of English 

The employments are planned for 40 hours/week (PhD level) and 20 hours/per week (master level) with monthly gross salaries (before taxes, 14 time per year) of approximately €2.700 (PhD level) and €970 (master level). The expected start date is September 2017.

a new opening for a PhD student "Computer vision for autonomous driving"

We are seeking a highly qualified graduate (Dipl.-Ing, MSc.) of Informatics, Mathematics or related studies (Electrical Engineering, Physics, …) with a background or strong interest in developing computer vision algorithms for autonomous driving applications. The successful candidate will work in a team of academic and industrial partners on the “CarVisionLight” project, funded by the Austrian Research Promotion Agency. The project targets the development of an intelligent combined 3D vision and adaptive front-lighting system for supporting automotive vision in the evolving field of automated driving. The PhD project will deal with the development of semi-automatic labeling techniques and associated user interaction for ground truth annotation in the context of high-level 3D environment understanding. We are looking for highly motivated candidates that meet several of the following requirements:

  • Excellent academic record
  • Strong background in computer vision
  • Experience in developing user interaction techniques
  • High ability of algorithmic thinking
  • Good programming skills in C++ and Matlab
  • Good knowledge of English (for international applicants, basic proficiency in German is an advantage) 

The employment will be for 3 years at 30-40 hours/week, with a monthly gross salary (before taxes, 14 time per year) of €2.000 - €2.700. The expected start date is September 2017.
