Die Fakultät für Mathematik an der Universität Wien ist die größte österreichische Forschungs- und Lehreinrichtung auf dem Gebiet der Mathematik. Sie zeichnet sich durch die Breite der vertretenen Fächer aus, welche von den Grundlagen der Logik, über alle klassischen Kernfächer, bis hin zu konkreten Industrieanwendungen reichen. Im Rahmen der Fakultät repräsentiert das Institut für Mathematik die Mathematik als Ganzes in Forschung und Lehre, ohne dabei eine willkürliche Trennung in Reine und Angewandte Mathematik vorzunehmen. Und zugleich bereiten wir junge Menschen auf die Anforderungen des modernen Arbeitsmarkts vor.

Ihr persönlicher Spielraum:

Als Universitätsassistent:in Praedoc ergänzen Sie das Forschungsteam rund um Univ.-Prof. Dr. Oliver Hahn. Unser:e ideale:r Kandidat:in bringt ein ausgeprägtes Interesse an der Entwicklung und Anwendung modernster numerischer Techniken zur Modellierung unseres Universums mit, verfügt über solides und fundiertes Hintergrundwissen in angewandter Mathematik, insbesondere in numerischen Methoden zur Lösung von partiellen Differentialgleichungen, sowie soliden Grundkenntnissen in Statistik und maschinellem Lernen, kann sich leicht in unser Team integrieren, selbstständig zu aktueller Forschung beitragen, sowie ergebnisverantwortlich arbeiten.

Sie sollten bereits über ausgeprägte Programmiererfahrung verfügen. Zusätzliches Vorwissen in High-Performance Computing, Maschinellem Lernen, oder Physik (insb. Kosmologie, allgemeine Relativitätstheorie) sind von Vorteil. Der Vertragsbeginn ist verhandelbar. Die Anstellungsdauer beträgt 4 Jahre ab Vertragsbeginn.

Der Schwerpunkt unserer Forschung liegt auf dem Gebiet der Data/Computational Science in der Astrophysik. Das machen Sie konkret:

Sie beteiligen sich aktiv an Forschung, Lehre & Administration, das bedeutet:

• Mitarbeit und Forschung auf dem Gebiet der numerischen Kosmologie:

          o Erarbeitung eigener Lösungsansätze als Teil der Forschungsgruppe von Prof. Hahn
          o Abschluss einer Dissertationsvereinbarung binnen 12-18 Monate wird erwartet.

• Interdisziplinäres Zusammenarbeiten:

         o Bereitschaft zur Teilnahme an internationaler und interdisziplinärer Forschung mit angewandten Forscher:innen
         o Besuch von internationalen Tagungen und Kongressen

• Mitarbeit in der Lehre und Administration:

         o Selbständige Mitwirkung in der Instituts-, Lehr- und Forschungsadministration.
         o Selbständige Mitwirkung an und selbständiges Abhalten von Lehrveranstaltungen im Ausmaß der kollektivvertraglichen Bestimmungen.

Erforderliche Qualifikation/Anstellungsvoraussetzung:

Abgeschlossenes Diplom- oder Master-Studium der Fachrichtung Mathematik oder einem verwandten Gebiet (bspw. Physik, Computational Science).

Erste Praxis im wissenschaftlichen Schreiben und mit Forschungsmethoden (Kopie der Masterarbeit, sowie Publikations- und Vortragsliste soweit zutreffend).

Erfahrung in der Entwicklung und Analyse von komplexen numerischen Verfahren, sowie deren effizienter Umsetzung in Programmcode.

Hohe wissenschaftliche Qualifikation in numerischen Methoden und wissenschaftlichem Rechnen.

Didaktische Kompetenzen und Qualifikation sowie Erfahrungen im e-learning.

Exzellente Programmierkenntnisse und deren Anwendungen in Python, Julia oder C++.

Ausgezeichnete Englischkenntnisse in Wort und Schrift.

Sie sind ein:e Teamplayer:in mit hoher sozialer, kommunikativer Kompetenz.

Sie sind zielorientiert und verfügen insb. über eine hohe Motivation wissenschaftliche Exzellenz anzustreben.

Sie haben keinen Anspruch auf Abgeltung angefallener Reise- und Aufenthaltskosten, die aus Anlass des Aufnahmeverfahrens entstanden sind.

Die Ausschreibung erfolgt für 4 Jahre, wobei das Arbeitsverhältnis vorerst auf 1,5 Jahre befristet ist und automatisch auf insgesamt 4 Jahre verlängert wird, sofern der Arbeitgeber nicht nach längstens 12 Monaten eine Nichtverlängerungserklärung abgibt.

Tenure-Track Professor in the field of Theoretical Computer Science

At the Faculty of Computer Science, the University of Vienna seeks to appoint a Tenure-Track Professor in the field of Theoretical Computer Science.

The position

We are looking for an outstanding computer scientist with an excellent track record in Theoretical Computer Science, documented by publications in relevant top-tier conferences and/or journals and a proven ability to conduct successful independent research. We are especially interested in (but not limited to) candidates with expertise in one or more of the following subareas: theoretical foundations of privacy and fairness in algorithm design, cryptography, (fine-grained) complexity theory, computational geometry, algorithmic game theory, computational social choice, or learning theory. We expect the successful candidate to complement our existing expertise in theory and applications of algorithms, to contribute substantially to the continuously growing success of this area, and to foster collaborations with other members of the Faculty of Computer Science.

Your academic profile:

• Doctoral degree/PhD
• Two years of international research experience during or after doctoral studies
• Outstanding research achievements, excellent publication and funding record, international reputation
• Experience in designing of and participating in research projects, ability to lead research groups and acquire third-party funding

The position

We are looking for an outstanding computer scientist with an excellent track record who studies design, development, implementation, and management of complex information systems. This involves combining concepts, principles, and techniques from information systems, software engineering, and other relevant areas within Computer Science, such as cybersecurity or data management.
