Dr. Zsofia Barna

Environmental health is my profession as well as my true hobby and my main field of interest is water hygiene. I obtained my master’s degree in engineering, my PhD degree in environmental sciences and studied environmental health, as well. I have delivered several courses on water and wastewater hygiene, public health and microbiology at Semmelweis University, Budapest. Prior to my assistant professor position, I worked in the Water Microbiology Laboratory of the National Centre for Public Health, Budapest. My doctoral dissertation provided technical foundations for the Hungarian Legionella Regulation, including the Technical Guidelines. I was involved in the epidemiological investigation of several Legionella outbreaks. My research findings on Legionella infection and the health risks of different water systems and spa pools have been publish in several scientific journals. As an idependent consultant, I carry out Legionella risk assessments with special focus on big companies (industrial facilities, hotels, office buildings, spas, etc.).
